How we judge watts

Updated · 16 Sep 2026 · Sheet checked · 16 Sep 2026

Running is what you can hold. Surge is a few seconds for a motor. Marketing uses the bigger number. We put running first.

Power stations sell watt-hours. Inverters sell watts. Do not mix them.

How we estimate runtime

For power stations we use a planning assumption: usable Wh = rated Wh × 0.85, then hours = usable Wh ÷ load W. Example at 500 W: rated Wh × 0.85 ÷ 500. We round hours down to one decimal. This is an Outage Stack planning assumption — not a manufacturer runtime claim. We do not invent fuel runtimes on generators.
